Douglas A. Oden, ESQ.

Is a native of San Diego growing up in Southeast San Diego. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1968 and completed his undergraduate work at California Lutheran University with a B.A. degree in Political Science. After working for a year for an insurance company, Oden started law school at Western State University College of Law in San Diego now known as Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

 Oden credits the late Honorable Earl B. Gilliam as the one individual who helped him succeed in law school. Oden graduated from law school in 1977 and passed the bar in 1978. He started his own firm in 1978 and remains in private practice today. While most attorney practice either criminal or civil law, Oden has always practiced both criminal and civil law. In the criminal arena, he has defended individual charged with crimes from theft to attempted murder. He has developed a successful personal injury practice obtaining settlements and judgments for his clients ranging from a few thousand to over a half million dollars.

Oden is currently the Senior Litigation attorney with the law firm of ODEN &GREENE The firm’s areas of practice include civil litigation, bankruptcy, criminal law, and personal injury. Oden has been very active in the legal community on the local, state and national level. He is a past President of the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association and a Past President of the California Association of Black Lawyers. 

He is a former Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and has served on the Executive Board of the State Bar Solo and Small Firm Section. Oden is also active in community affairs. He has served as Vice Chairman of the Southeastern Economic Development Corporation and is the immediate Past President of the San Diego Branch of the NAACP. 

 Oden is the recipient of numerous awards including the Loren Miller Award from the San Diego Branch NAACP, the Career Achievement Award from California Lutheran University, twice selected as a recipient of the Thurgood Marshall Award and the Distinguish Service Award from the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association. He has also received Resolutions from the City and County of San Diego and the California State Assembly and the California Senate.   


Attorney Greene received his under graduate degree in business from California State College Stanislaus in 1975 and his Juris Doctorate degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1980.

He is a partner in the law firm of ODEN & , GREENE with primary emphasis in the area of bankruptcy and personal injury.

He has personally handled hundreds of Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 Bankruptcy cases and is considered the Dean of Bankruptcy Law in the African-American Legal Community.

He has lectured on bankruptcy at many other community forums over the years in addition to his annual participation at the Neighborhood Law School.
